Built on PHP and MySQL, WordPress has evolved into a content management system used by rookie developers and Fortune 500 companies alike. At Midlothian Web Solutions, it’s one of our specialties.

Why do we like WordPress?

  1. Familiarity – As of April 2013, WordPress holds the largest share of the CMS market – 54.47% of the top 100,000 sites to be specific (Drupal is its closest competitor with 17.99%, followed by Joomla at 6.67%). People know WordPress. Not only does this potentially mean less training time for employees, but a trust already been established in this strongly rooted company.
  2. Ease of Use – While Drupal, Joomla, and similar PHP platforms have everything that a programmer could dream of, WordPress started with one goal in mind – blogging – and has expanded around this singular, extremely user-friendly model.
  3. Extendibility – Blogging? No problem. Integration with 3rd parties? Why yes, WordPress can do that too. From inserting Google Calendars and Amazon shopping carts to so much more, there are few limitations to WordPress. With over 24,000 Plugins, you can see why its flexible framework has become so popular.
  4. Easy SEO – WordPress has clean code. Okay, sure, fine, but what does this mean for the non-programmers of the world? Search Engine Optimization is all about on-page content in 2013. With clean code, search engine bots can easy see your keyword portfolio, bringing optimized sites to attention of the masses.
  5. Open Source – Have we mentioned how much we appreciate the open source community? Maybe a couple times (ahem, ahem), but let’s do it one more time here. A community built on sharing, team-work, and collaboration – what’s not to love?
